The Thailand Privilege Card, formerly called the Thailand Elite Visa, is a paid-membership program. You pay a one-time fee to join, and the headline benefit is a long-term visa to live in Thailand. It’s run by Thailand Privilege Card Company Limited, which is owned by the Thai government (specifically the Tourism Authority of Thailand, under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports).

The big difference between this and other long-stay visas is how you qualify. There’s no income test, no asset test, no employer test, and no age limit. You qualify by paying the membership fee.

Once you’re approved and you’ve paid, the visa you get is technically called a Privilege Entry (PE) Visa. It’s a 5-year multiple-entry visa, and each entry lets you stay up to 1 year. It renews every 5 years for as long as your underlying membership is active.  

The good part is speed and simplicity: no financial paperwork, no employer letters, no age cutoff, no need to open a Thai bank account, and no border runs every few months. The downside is the upfront cost. Membership fees run from THB 650,000 to THB 5,000,000 depending on the tier you choose. 

There are five tiers, each with its own fee, term length, and annual perks

1) Bronze: THB 650,000, 5 years. No annual privilege points, but you get unlimited use of the Elite Personal Assistant (EPA) service and airport lounge access. Bronze is a limited-time tier and is currently available through September 30, 2026. It may not be offered after that.

2) Gold: THB 900,000, 5 years. 20 privilege points per year. 

3) Platinum: THB 1,500,000, 10 years. 35 privilege points per year.

4) Diamond: THB 2,500,000, 15 years. 55 privilege points per year.

5) Reserve: THB 5,000,000, 20 years. 120 privilege points per year, plus Reserve-only first-category privileges and certain unlimited-use services. Reserve is invitation-only. You can’t apply for it directly. Invitations usually go to existing high-tier members in good standing, or to applicants with a real standing relationship with the company. If you want Reserve features (the longest term, the one-time family transfer right, the built-in renewability), you typically start at Diamond or Platinum and work your way up.

On top of the membership fee, there’s a THB 50,000 application fee which is deductible from the broader membership fee upon membership approval. It’s worth noting that this application fee is refundable if the company rejects you, except on Reserve (where it’s not refundable).

A Core Member is the main person on the membership: the one whose name it’s under and who pays the full membership fee. A Next Member is an immediate family member who’s added to a Core Member’s membership at a discounted rate. Next Members share the same term and the same pool of benefits as the Core Member, but pay a lower fee.

Next Member applications only work if there’s a Core Member to anchor them. You can submit both at the same time, but the dependent application is always tied to the main one.

Important: Next Members are only available under Platinum, Diamond, and Reserve. Bronze and Gold are individual-only memberships. If you want family on the same membership, you need to enter at Platinum or higher.

The program defines “immediate family member” specifically. It includes your spouse, civil union partner (where the certificate was issued by an authority that legally recognizes it), biological children, legally adopted children, biological parents, and step-parents. Siblings, cousins, in-laws, and unmarried partners don’t qualify.

Each Next Member has to provide proof of the family relationship. For a spouse, that’s a marriage certificate or civil union certificate. For a biological child, a birth certificate. For an adopted child, a birth certificate plus the adoption certificate or court order. For a parent or step-parent, the Core Member’s birth certificate showing the relationship, plus a marriage certificate between the biological parent and step-parent where it applies.

Privilege points are an annual benefit for Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Reserve members. You spend them on privileges in the program’s privilege catalogue. 

Points reset every year. They don’t roll over. They’re tied to your name only (you can’t give them to someone else), and they can’t be converted to cash. Once you’ve used up your annual allocation, you can still use the same privileges, but you’d pay the standard rates listed in the E-Privilege Manual.

A rough sense of what points actually buy: 

1) A high-end SUV transfer from Koh Samui Airport to your accommodation typically costs 1 point

2) A round of golf at Siam Country Club in Pattaya is around 3 points

3) Spa sessions, fine dining experiences, extra EPA hours, and similar privileges sit in the 1-to-5-point range, depending on the specific service and provider

The honest reality is that almost everyone buys this membership program for the visa itself: long-term, uninterrupted status in Thailand with no border bounces, no Thai bank account requirement, no annual extension paperwork. The points are a nice secondary benefit, not the headline. 

This matters for which tier you choose because if you’re comparing Gold against Platinum based on points (20 vs. 35 per year), you’re comparing the wrong thing. The real decision drivers are how long you want the term to last (5 vs. 10 years) and how much you’re willing to spend (THB 900,000 vs. THB 1,500,000). If you plan to live in Thailand long-term, Platinum or higher gives you the uninterrupted years that may justify the higher fee depending on how you see it.

One more thing worth knowing. The privileges in place when you apply aren’t locked in for the full term. The company reserves the right to add, change, remove, or limit any privilege, or swap out any service provider, at any time. So the privilege catalogue you’re looking at in year 1 may look different in year 3. The visa itself is the only benefit that’s effectively guaranteed, because it’s granted under Thai government authority rather than as a privately run service.

The Elite Personal Assistant (EPA) service is the core privilege across all tiers, and it’s the single most-used benefit in the program. EPA gets you a personal greeting on arrival, fast-track immigration, and ground transportation help at major Thai international airports.

In practical terms, when you land in Thailand, someone meets you at the gate, walks you through a dedicated immigration channel that skips the standard queue, helps you with bags and ground transfer, and gets you out of the airport much faster than the normal arrival process. On departure, the same service runs in reverse: dedicated check-in support, fast-track security, and lounge access until boarding.

Why is this the most-used benefit?

Beyond EPA, the privileges fall into two buckets. First-category privileges are fixed-allocation benefits available either once during your term or as a limited number of uses per year. Examples include certain VIP airport services, lounge access, concierge help with a Thai driver’s license or bank account opening, and certain annual lifestyle perks, depending on your tier. Second-category privileges are point-redeemable: golf, spa, fine dining, ground transfers, extra EPA hours, and similar. The specific privileges in each category are spelled out in the E-Privilege Manual, which the company can update at any time.

It’s a two-stage process: background screening first, then payment and visa issuance. From submission to visa in hand typically takes 4 to 12 weeks, with most landing in the 6 to 10 week range. The variables are how clean your application is, your nationality (some passports trigger longer background checks), and whether the company comes back asking for more documents.

Stage 1 is background screening and approval. Once you’ve decided which tier to pursue (Bronze, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, or Reserve, with Reserve being invitation-only and rare), and whether you’re applying solo, with Next Members, or as a Next Member under an already-approved Core Member, Thailand Blueprint preps and packages all the documents in the client portal in the exact format the company’s officers expect.

The application then goes to Thailand Privilege Card Company, which runs background checks against the Royal Thai Police, the Immigration Bureau, the Consular Department, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs databases. Thailand Blueprint tracks progress and updates you regularly, including immediately if more documents are requested. This stage is a security and immigration eligibility review only. There’s no financial qualification review and no employer review, which is what makes this path much faster than the LTR Visa. Approval usually comes through in 4 to 8 weeks, with the background check timing being the main variable depending on nationality.

Stage 2 is payment and visa issuance. Once the company approves you, you receive written approval and an invoice for the membership fee (and any Next Member fees). You have to pay the full fee within the deadline on the written approval, or the approval is automatically cancelled. No second chances, no extensions, no payment plans. Payment is by Thai Baht remittance to Thailand Privilege Card Company’s Krung Thai Bank account, and no bank charges can be deducted from the amount.

Once the company confirms it has the money, Thailand Blueprint sets up the visa issuance, either in Thailand at a major airport (coordinated with the EPA service on arrival) or through a Thai Embassy or Consulate abroad as a PDF e-Visa. The two paths have different mechanics, covered below.

The Thailand Privilege Card is light on documents compared to the LTR Visa, but the documents you do need have to be prepared right. The company is detail-oriented, and they apply the same background-check standards used across all other Thai long-term visa pathways. 

Here’s the standard document package:

1) A clear scan of your passport’s biodata page and the bearer signature page (your passport needs at least 12 months of validity left and at least 3 blank pages

2) A passport-style headshot photo on a white background, taken within the last 6 months, with formal attire, facing forward, no smiling, no glasses, no accessories, and ears visible if you have long hair (treat it as a professional photo, not a casual one) 

3) The Multiple Passports and Nationalities Declaration Form, which is covered separately below because it matters far more than people realize

4) A copy of any current Thai visa or recent Thai entry stamps in your current passport, since the company reviews your overall Thailand immigration history during screening

5) The Qualifications of the Applicant Declaration, a 15-clause certification that you’re eligible under Thai immigration law and the program’s rules

6) A PDPA (Personal Data Protection) Consent Form authorizing the company to collect, use, and share your personal data, including biometric data like facial recognition used for identity verification through the Thailand Privilege mobile app

For Next Member applications, you’ll also need to prove the family relationship to the Core Member: marriage certificate or civil union certificate for a spouse, birth certificate for biological children, birth certificate plus adoption documents for adopted children, and the Core Member’s birth certificate plus relevant marriage certificates for parent or step-parent applicants.

If the applicant is under 20, a legal guardian (usually a parent) has to co-sign the application and provide consent, along with documents proving the guardianship.

All documents have to be in English or Thai. Documents in other languages have to be translated to English by a translator the company accepts, certified as an accurate translation, and notarized.

The background check isn’t necessarily about your finances. It’s a security and immigration eligibility. 

The screening confirms that you don’t have any of the following: a disqualifying criminal record (other than petty offences or offences committed through negligence); an active arrest warrant or watch-list status with Thai or foreign governments; an exile or deportation history; an overstay history in Thailand beyond what the program tolerates; or involvement in bankruptcy, insolvency liquidation, money laundering, or financial crime.

A few specific disqualification categories worth understanding in detail.

1) Overstay history. The program won’t accept applicants with more than one overstay in Thailand within the past three years. A single brief overstay usually passes screening as long as you disclose it. Two or more in the past three years generally don’t. Hiding an overstay is treated as misrepresentation and can get you rejected at screening, or your membership cancelled retroactively if it surfaces later.

2) Bankruptcy. A prior bankruptcy can disqualify you. Applications are reviewed case-by-case, so the nature, age, and context of the bankruptcy matter, but bankruptcy isn’t treated the same as a low credit score. A low credit score on its own usually isn’t disqualifying. A prior bankruptcy can be.

3) Criminal records. Imprisonment for anything other than petty offences or negligence-based offences can disqualify you. Like bankruptcy, this is reviewed case-by-case, factoring in the nature of the offence, how long ago it was, and the jurisdiction. If you have any criminal history, disclose it to Thailand Blueprint at the eligibility assessment so we can pre-screen whether the application is even viable before you commit time and the application fee.

Old issues can surface even when you’ve forgotten about them. Old immigration violations, old deportations from other countries, old administrative immigration matters. They all show up in database checks. Anyone with a complex immigration or legal history should disclose it upfront. The application fee is refundable if the company rejects you, but the time and effort spent on the application isn’t. Pre-application screening through Thailand Blueprint avoids the wasted cycle.

This is one of the most important practical realities of the program, and the scope of it surprises a lot of first-time applicants. Once the company has approved your application and you’ve paid the membership fee, that fee is non-refundable in almost every situation.

Here are the specific scenarios where you do not get a refund:

1) A Thai immigration officer later denies you entry into Thailand

2) A later visa renewal or related application is denied for reasons outside the program’s control

3) Your membership is terminated for misconduct, breach of program rules, or failure to maintain disclosure requirements

4) You’re found to have failed to disclose all passports or nationalities at any point during the membership

5) You die during the membership term

That last one is worth sitting with. There’s no death-benefit or estate-refund mechanism in the membership fee. If you buy a Diamond Membership at age 60 and pass away at age 63, the remaining 12 years of the term just end. No proportional refund, no transfer of the remaining value to your estate.

The only narrow exception is if the company itself shuts down the membership because of a government policy change that stops the company from operating. This is a remote scenario and not something to rely on as a safety net.

The application fee (THB 50,000) follows different rules. It’s refundable if the company rejects your application at the screening stage, except on the Reserve tier where it’s not refundable. So in practice, the real financial commitment moment is when you remit the membership fee. Up until then, the worst case for non-Reserve applicants is THB 50,000 plus your time.

This is exactly why pre-application screening matters so much for anyone with a complex history. The Thailand Privilege Card is not the place to discover, after paying THB 1,500,000 for a Platinum membership, that an undisclosed nationality or an old overstay is going to cause your membership to be retroactively cancelled. Disclosure and pre-screening at the eligibility assessment stage prevent this.

Once you’ve paid the membership fee and the company has confirmed receipt, the visa can be issued in one of two ways, depending on where you are and what location documents you have.

Option 1: in-person issuance at the airport. You coordinate your arrival flight with Thailand Privilege Card Company so the EPA team can meet you at one of the major Thai airports (usually Suvarnabhumi or Phuket International Airport). The visa gets stamped directly into your passport on arrival as the first 5 years of the Thailand Privilege Card Visa, alongside the EPA service. This is usually the recommended path because a physical stamp in your passport makes long-term life in Thailand easier and helps with practical things like opening a Thai bank account.

Option 2: remote issuance through a Thai Embassy or Consulate abroad. The visa gets issued fully remotely as a PDF e-Visa. Thailand Blueprint coordinates the issuance through the right Embassy or Consulate based on where you are. You receive the e-Visa PDF, which you need to keep on file. Standard practice is a printed copy in your passport plus digital copies on your phone, laptop, and other devices.

Option 3: in-person issuance at Immigration Division 1 in Bangkok. 

Either way, the visa you get is a renewable 5-year multiple-entry Privilege Entry Visa with up to 1 year of stay per entry. It renews in 5-year segments throughout your membership term.

Once issuance is done, Thailand Blueprint gives you a Post-Service Information Pack covering 90-Day Report timing under the TM.47 Form, TM.30 Address Notification, and how to maintain the visa properly throughout your membership.

Yes. The reporting requirements that apply to other long-stay visas apply to the Thailand Privilege Card Visa in the same way. Having this membership doesn’t get you out of standard Thai immigration reporting.

The main one is the 90-Day Report, filed under the TM.47 Form. Every 90 days you’re continuously inside Thailand, you have to confirm your current residential address with Thai Immigration. Like other long-stay visas, the 90-day clock resets every time you exit and re-enter Thailand. So if you travel internationally even semi-regularly, you may rarely need to file a report at all in practice. Reports are calculated on exactly 90 calendar days (not three months), and you can submit up to 15 days in advance of the due date.

Thailand Privilege Card Company offers an assisted 90-day reporting service as part of the membership benefits. If you’d rather handle it yourself, you can use the Immigration Bureau’s TM.47 online portal, but the first report after any new entry into Thailand has to be done in person at a Thai Immigration office. Subsequent reports during that stay can then go online.

The TM.30 Address Notification is a separate requirement that kicks in when you move into a new residence in Thailand. Your landlord, hotel, or property manager is supposed to file it within 24 hours of your arrival at the property, but in practice many members handle this themselves or through assistance from Thailand Privilege Card Company or Thailand Blueprint.

It's also worth noting that here’s no minimum-stay requirement to keep your membership or visa active. A member who only spends two or three weeks a year in Thailand keeps full membership status and full visa renewability throughout the term. This is one of the structural advantages for high-net-worth applicants who maintain residences in multiple countries.

Yes. The program has a formal upgrade mechanism that lets you move to a higher tier during your existing term.

The cost has two parts. First, an upgrade fee, usually THB 100,000, or THB 150,000 for upgrades from Bronze. Second, the difference between your current tier’s membership fee and the target tier’s membership fee. Your total upgrade cost is the upgrade fee plus that difference.

A worked example. A current Gold member (who paid THB 900,000) wants to upgrade to Diamond (THB 2,500,000). They pay the THB 100,000 upgrade fee plus the THB 1,600,000 difference between Gold and Diamond. Total upgrade cost: THB 1,700,000. The new membership term runs the full 15 years of Diamond starting from the upgrade date, not just whatever was left on the original Gold term.

You can’t upgrade from Reserve, since Reserve is already the highest tier. Reserve has its own renewal mechanism instead.

Worth pricing upgrades against just entering directly at a higher tier. If you already know you want Diamond, enter at Diamond. Don’t enter at Gold and upgrade later. The upgrade fee is an extra cost you don’t pay if you enter directly. Upgrades make sense when your circumstances or intentions change after you’ve already entered, not as a default starting strategy.

Mostly no. Membership transfer rules are restrictive, and they vary by tier.

Bronze, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond memberships cannot be transferred to anyone, not to a third party, not to a family member, at any point during the term. Your membership is in your name, attached to you, for the duration. If you pass away mid-term, the membership ends. No transfer rights.

Reserve is the exception. Reserve members get a one-time transfer to an immediate family member, subject to that family member meeting the same qualifications and the company’s approval. The existing membership term and privileges carry over as-is at the time of transfer. It doesn’t reset the clock or extend the term. There’s no transfer fee, but you have to give the company written notice at least 6 months before the end of the membership term. The one-time transfer right is part of what justifies Reserve’s higher fee.

In practice, this means family-based long-term planning under this program runs through the Next Member structure, not transfers. Adding a spouse or children as Next Members under a Core Member’s application is the standard way to extend program benefits to your family. Transfers are the exception, available only on Reserve, and only once.

If your long-term plan involves leaving a Thailand residency pathway to a family member as part of estate planning, the Thailand Privilege Card generally isn’t the right vehicle. The LTR Visa with proper dependant structuring, or planning around independent visa pathways for each family member, tends to produce cleaner outcomes than relying on a transfer mechanism that, outside Reserve, doesn’t exist.

The Thailand Privilege Card Visa is not a work permit, and the limits this creates matter.

The hard line: you cannot work inside Thailand for Thai clients, a Thai company, or in Thailand in a way that engages with the Thai economy here. That rules out a lot of things people sometimes assume the card covers. You can’t open or operate a restaurant, bar, café, or boutique hotel in Thailand. You can’t take a salaried job at a Thai company. You can’t consult for Thailand-based clients. You can’t operate a Thai-registered business in any working capacity, even if you’re the legal owner or director. All of that requires a Thai work permit, and a work permit isn’t available to Privilege Card holders. 

Fully remote work for a foreign business is treated differently. If you run a consulting business based outside Thailand, serving non-Thai clients, in an industry unrelated to the Thai economy, and you happen to be doing that work remotely from your condo or villa in Thailand, that’s not the same as operating a Thai business. Though there are still nuances to consider even for that.  

If your business model touches the Thai economy in any meaningful way, think carefully about whether your actual operations match what the visa allows. At the end of the day, the right structure for someone who genuinely wants to operate a Thai business is a Non-Immigrant ‘B’ Visa paired with a work permit, or an LTR Visa under a category that authorizes Thai work.

For applicants whose entire reason for being in Thailand is long-term lifestyle rather than work, this isn’t a problem. The Thailand Privilege Card is built for that profile. For applicants who plan to monetize Thai market opportunities, the card is the wrong fit structurally, even if the application would be approved.

The Thailand Privilege Card sits in a specific spot in the broader long-stay visa landscape. Which one is right for you depends entirely on your finances, your age, your work plans, and how you feel about spending a non-refundable fee upfront.

1) Versus the LTR Visa: The LTR is the structurally better option for anyone who can qualify, because it keeps your money as your money. The LTR Wealthy Pensioner requires USD $80,000 in annual passive income. The LTR Wealthy Global Citizen requires USD $1,000,000 in global assets which must include at least a USD $500,000 qualifying Thai investment (the Thai investment stays your asset). The LTR Work-From-Thailand Professional requires employment with a qualifying employer plus an income threshold. If you can meet any of these, take the LTR before defaulting to the Thailand Privilege Card. The LTR’s main cost is a one-time government issuance fee, not a THB 650,000 to THB 5,000,000 sunk cost.

2) Versus the Non-O and OA Retirement Visas: These are limited to applicants 50 and older and they’re significantly cheaper to obtain than the Thailand Privilege Card, but they require active financial maintenance and annual extension paperwork. The Thailand Privilege Card has no age restriction and no money you have to keep parked. For a retiree who qualifies for either Non-O or Non-OA and wants the cheapest reliable long-term path, the retirement visas usually win on cost. For a retiree who wants to skip the 800,000 THB deposit, skip the paperwork, and skip dealing with Thai banking obligations, and who can absorb the upfront fee, the Thailand Privilege Card is a cleaner experience.

3) Versus the DTV: The DTV is much cheaper at qualification (500,000 THB equivalent in a home-country account) and gives you 5-year multiple-entry status. But each entry caps at 180 days, the DTV generally doesn’t unlock Thai banking, you have to keep meeting the original work or activity criteria, and you need some kind of border bounce or in-country extension every 180 days. The Thailand Privilege Card gives you up to 1 year of stay per entry, unlocks Thai banking, and doesn’t necessarily require ongoing work or activity verification. If you travel internationally anyway and earn foreign income, the DTV often wins. If you want to settle in Thailand without border bounces, the Thailand Privilege Card wins, assuming you can absorb the membership fee.

So when is the Thailand Privilege Card actually the right choice? It works best for applicants who can’t qualify for the LTR (usually because their business isn’t publicly listed, doesn’t hit the USD $50M revenue threshold, or their passive income falls short of the USD $80,000 LTR Wealthy Pensioner threshold); who aren’t eligible for the retirement visas (under 50, or unwilling to deal with the 800,000 THB deposit or insurance requirements); and who value low-friction long-term status enough to absorb a THB 650,000 to THB 5,000,000 non-refundable fee. The two most common matching profiles in practice: location-independent business owners earning USD $200,000 to USD $500,000 a year who fall between the DTV and LTR thresholds, and higher-end retirees with comfortable assets who don’t want to deal with much paperwork or maintain Thai banking deposits.
