Can I apply for the LTR Visa if I am already living in Thailand on another visa?
Yes. It is possible to convert to an LTR Visa from a range of existing visa statuses, including a Non-Immigrant ‘O’, Non-Immigrant ‘B’, or ‘ED’ Visa, a DTV Visa, and even from Visa Exemption status. The BOI application itself is submitted remotely regardless of your current immigration status, so the process can begin from wherever you are.
The main practical consideration for applicants already in Thailand is the issuance step. If you want to have your LTR Visa stamped into your passport at the BOI in Bangkok, you need to be physically in Thailand and provide your most recent entry stamp and TDAC slip. This is not a barrier for most people already living in Thailand, but it does require being present for the appointment.
One additional point worth knowing: if you are already in Thailand on a long-term visa and have been filing 90-day reports, you may be asked to provide your most recent TM.47 90-day report as part of your LTR application documentation, to establish your current immigration position clearly.
Thailand Blueprint will assess your current visa status as part of the eligibility call and present a clear transition plan based on your specific situation.
