What exactly is the Non-Immigrant ‘O’ Retirement Visa?
The Non-Immigrant ‘O’ Retirement Visa is Thailand’s most established long-stay option for foreign nationals aged 50 and above who wish to live in Thailand in retirement.
It is a two-stage visa process:
First you obtain an initial 90-day Non-Immigrant ‘O’ Visa (usually through a Thai Embassy or Consulate outside of Thailand)
Then after arriving in Thailand (with your 90-day visa already in place as mentioned above), you apply for a 12-month extension of stay through Thai Immigration inside the country. Once that 12-month extension is in place, you renew/extend it each year for as long as you continue to meet the requirements.
This visa has been used by tens of thousands of foreign retirees and remains Thailand’s most popular retirement pathway.
