Is a Thai bank account required for the OA Visa?

No. Unlike the Non-Immigrant ‘O’ Retirement Visa, the OA does not require you to open a Thai bank account or deposit any funds into a Thai account as a condition of the visa itself. Applicants who qualify using the pension income method, in particular, never need to show any funds held in Thailand.

That said, opening a Thai bank account is something most long-term residents in Thailand find practically essential over time: for daily transactions, paying rent, utility bills, managing local expenses, and for future visa planning purposes. As part of Thailand Blueprint’s Premium Package, bank account opening in Bangkok is included and handled in person by the Thailand Blueprint team during your first days in Thailand.

For OA clients who later decide to transition to a Non-Immigrant ‘O’ Retirement Visa pathway in future years, having a Thai bank account already established and active is particularly useful, as the Non-O extension requires an active Thai bank account with the required deposit.
