Who qualifies for the Non-Immigrant ‘OA’ Retirement Visa?

To qualify you must be at least 50 years of age. Beyond that, there are three things every applicant must be able to satisfy: a financial requirement, a health insurance requirement, and two additional documentation requirements that the Non-O does not have. All three must be met. If any one of them cannot be satisfied, the application cannot proceed.

The financial requirement gives you a genuine choice between a bank deposit method and a pension income method. The health insurance requirement means you must hold a qualifying policy covering at least 3,000,000 Thai Baht of in-patient care for the full duration of the visa period. The additional documentation layer means you must provide a medical certificate from a licensed doctor confirming you are free of certain listed conditions, and a police clearance certificate from your country showing a clean criminal background check.

The OA is generally well-suited for applicants who rely on pension income, who want their long-stay status sorted before arriving in Thailand, and who are comfortable with the insurance and additional documentation requirements. Applicants who want to avoid the health insurance requirement, medical certificate, or police clearance typically find the Non-Immigrant ‘O’ Retirement Visa a better fit.
